The Workplace Connection Series

How connection actually forms at work — between people who did not choose each other, under real constraints of hierarchy, calendars, and turnover.

This series is about connection under the specific conditions of work: unequal authority, mutual evaluation, allocated time, turnover, and colleagues nobody selected. It opens with the cornerstone case for why connection at work matters and what an individual can influence without authority, then takes belonging and trust as they behave specifically between coworkers. From there it becomes practical — talking to colleagues, welcoming someone new, and building rituals (the workplace pause included) that survive a busy quarter. Remote and hybrid teams get their own article, followed by honest conversations at work and the team-level condition of psychological safety. The capstone puts the pieces in order — how the eight practices fit together in ordinary working life, what an individual can influence, what requires authority, and why a workplace can make room for connection but never manufacture it.
