Become a Fika Pause Place

Few institutions have done more to keep the practice of slow, shared time alive than the independent coffee shop. Fika Pause Places are partner cafes that visibly honor the Swedish tradition of fika — pausing for a coffee, a small sweet, and unhurried company — and we'd love yours on the map.

Why Fika Pause benefits coffee shops

  • Gain a hospitality-driven brand association rooted in a beloved cultural tradition
  • Get listed on the public Fika Pause Places map and city guides
  • Differentiate from chains by leaning into the conversational, communal heart of cafe life
  • Attract the wellbeing-curious customer who actively seeks places to gather and talk

How Fika Pause can be used

  • Place a small Fika Pause card on each table with one daily conversation prompt
  • Host a monthly 'Fika Pause hour' — a slower service window with no laptops and shared seating
  • Add a 'Fika Pause Place' badge to your storefront window or menu
  • Partner with us on a featured city guide or fika-themed seasonal menu

Suggested implementation ideas

  • Print conversation cards as table tents — guests pick one, leave one
  • Pair a pastry of the day with a 'fika quote' on the receipt
  • Hold an open invitation 'Solo Fika Hour' — a stigma-free time to come alone and be welcome
  • Co-host an evening event with a local author, therapist, or community leader on rest and meaning
